The Matthew E. Welsh Bridge is a two-lane, single-deck cantilever bridge on the Ohio River. The bridge connects Kentucky Route 79 and Indiana State Road 135, as well as the communities of Brandenburg, Meade County, Kentucky, and Mauckport, Indiana. The construction of the bridge began in August 1964, as shown in the background of this photo, and was opened to traffic on November 19, 1966. This bridge replaced the Brandenburg Ferry which is shown in the foreground. The bridge is down the Ohio River, 30 miles from Louisville.
