Each month, The Kentucky
Explorer magazine receives literally scores of letters from
our faithful readers. Whenever possible, we try to publish as
many of them as possible in the 12 pages we have set aside for
"Letters to the Editor."
Here are actual letters from April
2007
Articles Bring
Back Memories
Dear Editor:
As a former Kentuckian I really enjoy The Kentucky Explorer.
The stories and articles bring back so many memories of growing
up in the mountains. After I read every article, I give the magazine
to my son who is interested in everything he can find concerning
our ancestors.

Sugar Camp School
Dear Editor:
I'm searching for photos of Sugar Camp School during the late
1940s and early 1950s. The school was located near the entrance
to the airport on Route 30 on Quicksand at Noctor, Breathitt
County, Kentucky. The school is now a home.
I will pay for the photos and postage.

Wanted: Dried Apple
Stack Cake Recipe
Dear Editor:
I am looking for an old recipe for dried apple stack cake. This
recipe was very popular in the Appalachia region of Kentucky.
I lost the copy I had from a White Lily Flour cake book, which
is about 30 years old.
Also, I would like the recipe for beaten biscuits which were
made at the old Beaumont Inn in Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Kentucky.
I will gladly pay postage if anyone has a copy of these recipes
to share.
