Each month, The Kentucky
Explorer magazine receives literally scores of letters from
our faithful readers. Whenever possible, we try to publish as
many of them as possible in the 12 pages we have set aside for
"Letters to the Editor."
Here are actual letters from our October
2003 issue:
Identities Made Of Berry
Ferry
Post Office Photo
Dear Editor:
Thanks for publishing the picture of the old Livingston County
Berry Ferry Post Office in the May 2003 issue, page 102. At the
time I submitted the picture, we only knew the identity of the
first man, who was Erick Metcalf, my father-in-law.
Thanks to two of your readers, James Hughes and Dorothy Gerding,
both of nearby Carrsville, we now have the identity of all others
pictured.
Standing on the porch, l-r: Erick Metcalf, Walter Stroud, Grant
Stokes, and Dick Stroud. In the foreground are Will Hughes (father
of James Hughes), Edd Grissom, Holland Capron, and Norval Louis.
We appreciate the help James and Dorothy have extended. I am
sure other descendants of those pictured will be grateful for
this information also.
I look forward to, and enjoy, each issue of The Explorer.

Wants Pokeberry Wine Recipe
Dear Editor:
I would like to have the recipe for making pokeberry wine. I
have access to the berries. I have read that the seeds are poisonous,
so I assume they have to be removed first.
