AN OLD-TIME MAIL CARRIER
- (About 1935) - For many years the people of the Rock Fork area
of Knott County were served by Reese Bolen, who carried the mail
by mule. As was common in those days, the bags of mail were hung
from the saddle as the mail carrier braved all kinds of weather
to deliver the mail on time. Reese Bolen was the son of William
Wheatly Bolen and Nancy Holliday Bolen. He was born on January
7, 1873, and died in March of 1950. He was married to Nancy Conley.
The couple had nine children: Unia, Theodore, Robert, Loya, Raymond,
Ada, Andy, Geraldine, and Maxine. (Photo shared by Phyllis Coburn
